Central American scientists met in Costa Rica to create a network in which they will place information on all the species of animals and plants that live in the region.

This study is formed by 25 southern Mexico universities and every Central American institution that integrates the Central American Network of Biotic Resources (Redmeso). The Costa Rican institution that is participating is the National University.

Manuel Vicario, member of Dwell State Autonomous University and director of Redmeso explained that the information will favor chief investigators.

"It will not be a public page. This will be a page dedicated in to the investigation. It will also be able to be utilized in teaching as part of the exchange of information among the specialists of the region, as well as in environmental education", commented Vicario.

The officials indicated that the main reason for making this information private is because of the possibility that it may fall "in the wrong hands".

The Central American region keeps the 7% of the biodiversity of the entire planet, and the enlisting work of all the species will begin this same week.
